Wolseley- A Town Around A Lake

Wolseley became a great place for homesteading and grew mainly due to the damming of Wolf Creek by the CPR to provide water supply for the engines.
The first settlers arrived in 1882 and were truly a tough group of people who survived the hardships associated with settling in a new, strange land.
Wolseley had a brick plant, which has given some of the buildings and houses around town some beautiful designs. There was a courthouse built in1884, a funeral home in 1903, and a large , brick house that was later moved across town and now operates as a Bed and Breakfast, called the Banbury Inn, as well as a Town Hall, which is now called the Wolseley Opera House and houses many events during the year from Weddings to Plays.
Wolseley also has a suspension bridge, which was originally built to connect the homes north of the lake to the business district. It continues to be a tourist attraction and a convenient short cut to town.
Wolseley was the town where Beaver Lumber was founded, and grew to have branches across the country. The original office still stands downtown.
Wolseley is also where Brent's Mom and Sister lives, so we are having a nice, restful visit with them. Brent is busy trimming trees, mowing lawns and helping with chores that have become a tad too challenging for his 80 year old Mom to do.
